BACKWASHING PH CORRECTION SYSTEMS High Flow Rate pH Correction Backwashing pH correction systems are popular for private water supplies, where acidic water requires pH correction to meet the requirements for drinking water. The Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) stipulates that potable water should sit between a pH of 6.5-9.5 to be safe for drinking. In addition to meeting regulations for drinking water, the pH may also need to be corrected in non-potable supplies, as water below pH 6.5 can leach metals like lead, copper and iron – corroding pipework and leading to leaks. Each system is supplied partially assembled, with some valve programming already complete. Some on-site assembly and minimal programming (just setting the time of day) is required. Systems are supplied with a Clack WS1 control valve and 1” inlet and outlet ports as standard. Why Use A Backwashing Vessel?Whilst pH correction can be achieved in a standard water treatment vessel (without backwashing head), or even in a refillable filter cartridge in low flow rate applications, for higher flow rates a backwashing system is preferable. This is because a large volume of media is required – enough that the water makes adequate contact time with the media for it to work properly. Large pH correction systems can be subject to sediment ingress, biological build up and, in periods of low or non-use, the media can even solidify. Backwashing at regular intervals helps to mitigate these issues and with the Clack WS1 control valve to operate this function automatically, systems can run for years with very minimal maintenance compared to a non or manual backwashing solution. How Often Do I Need To Replace The pH Correction Media?Juraperle pH correction media slowly dissolves over time. We recommend checking media levels once every 3 months, either by manually opening the vessel or by using a pH test.
